Starting with Afresco
Alfresco is an ECM, Enterprise Content Management. It’s really far away from blogs and WordPress plugins, but I’m starting (today) to explore it for a project.
Alfresco is big, 350 megabytes and more and contains the document management part and a new web module to create a collaboration environement with forums, blogs and wiki’s for enterprises.
Alfresco comes with two version: the open source and free Labs version and the costly Enterprive version. That means: do not expect to find great documentation on Alfresco site. It’s probabily better to go to amazon and buy a couple of books like Alfresco Developer Guide and Alfresco Enterprise Content Management Implementation: How to Install, use, and customize this powerful, free, Open Source Java-based Enterprise CMS
.
I’ve just asked my company to buy them… hoping to have them before 2015…
The official Alfresco site is www.alfresco.com, but it is really marketing oriented. To get some more information it’s better to register to their community or navigate the wiki. I’m still try to make a mind map of their sites… yeah… they have a document management system… may be the relative information are well organized…
To install Alfresco on Windows to give it a try, other than download it, it worths to give a look to the video embedded below explaining the installation step by step.
It can be interesting to note that the subsequent video YouTube is proposing me is a video about the hot word pajama. If Alfresco is not rising your interest you can follow the latter video…

I'm Stefano Lissa. 10 years ago I was building web sites for my pleasure. Blogs didn't exist, web content systems were ugly, hosting really expensive. And my student pocket was empty.
